Time is running out for The Bear. FX and Hulu‘s stressful restaurant drama is now less than a month away from serving up its fifth and final course before they flip the sign to closed and turn the stoves off. After a fateful decision by Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) to leave operations in Sydney’s (Ayo Edebiri) hands at the end of Season 4, the staff of the titular eatery has a whole new slate of challenges to face and a lot to unpack without the chef who got them to this point. Ahead of the premiere, the official trailer for the 21-time Emmy winner has arrived with an air of finality to it that suggests the staff will have to pull out all the stops to keep the lights on for much longer.
The Bear Season 5 will waste no time ratcheting up the drama, picking up the morning after Carmy leaves the food industry behind. After four seasons spent transforming his late brother’s debt-ridden Chicago sandwich shop into a fine dining destination, it’s now left up to Sydney, Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Natalie “Sugar” (Abby Elliott) to pick up the pieces and manage things with no money to their name. Add in the threat of a sale and a monster storm, and it feels as if the elements themselves are conspiring against them. They’ll have to process what Carmy hanging up his apron means while scrambling to keep the restaurant alive for one more service to hopefully earn a coveted Michelin star. As the footage shows, these partners won’t go down without a fight together.
The trailer opens with Sydney getting locked in for service, seemingly processing the weight of everything she’s now juggling under the new partner agreement with Richie. Nothing can quite prepare her for the downpour of bad news that follows, though. As much as The Bear‘s staff has consistently outrun debt and kept the restaurant afloat in an increasingly harsh restaurant industry, the walls are closing in: the building is about to be sold, water is literally pouring through its cracks, deliveries are cut off, and one disaster after another keepspopping up. As Richie puts it, “We are outmanned and outgunned,” but the secret ingredient they have in their back pocket is each other. Carmy, too, joins them in this final fight to keep The Bear running. By now, they’re a well-oiled machine built on love and with nothing left to lose, setting the stage for an emotional finale, whether they succeed or go down with their (literally) sinking ship.
Who Will Return for ‘The Bear’ Season 5?
Earlier this year, Moss-Brachrach and Jon Bernthal got the spotlight in the special prequel episode “Gary,” which finally explored the character of Mikey deeper on a work trip to Indiana with Richie, adding a bit more emotional weight to the upcoming finale. It helped tide viewers over, but now, the main series will look to pay off the years of service The Bear‘s chefs have put in and the emotional evolution they’ve undergone both within and outside the kitchen. Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Matty Matheson are all back for the final service, with Ricky Staffieri, Oliver Platt, Will Poulter, and Jamie Lee Curtis again among the recurring stars. Series creator Christopher Storer is also back at the helm.
The Bear Season 5 will debut all eight episodes on Hulu on June 25 at 9 p.m. ET and internationally on Disney+. FX will also begin airing the show on the same day. Check out the trailer in the player above.
