‘Blade Runner 2099’: First Teaser Teases the Prime Video Sequel Series!! Check It Out!!

Over 40 years ago, Ridley Scott and a team of visionary artists took science fiction into the future with Blade Runner. Decades later, Denis Villeneuve returned to that world in Blade Runner 2049 to see how it had evolved. Now, fifty years after the events of that film, a new series is coming to Prime Video that will transform the world of Blade Runner. Blade Runner 2099 has now been unveiled at San Diego Comic Con, and Collider‘s Samantha Coley was on the scene to tell us all the details.

In Blade Runner 2099, the future humanity feared has come to pass. While once the artificial Replicants were an underclass, subject to elimination by “blade runners” like Rick Deckard, they are now the masters of the Earth. Organic humans are increasingly rare, and subject to oppression from Replicants, who are physically and intellectually superior to them in every way. Michelle Yeoh is Olwen, a Replicant who is reaching the end of her pre-programmed lifespan; like Roy Batty in the original film, her time is running out, and there is nothing she can do to forestall it. Hunter Schafer, meanwhile, is Cora, a member of the Replicants’ new society with a big secret: she’s human.

In the new trailer for the series, we return to the iconic futuristic city canyons of Blade Runner‘s Los Angeles, as well as the hovering police “spinners” designed by Syd Mead. We get an introduction to both Olwen and Cora, a Replicant and a human both facing an uncertain future, and see them forced to work together towards a common goal. However, danger lurks behind the deceptively sun-soaked facade of the new, Replicant-ruled City of Angels, and the duo are going to need all the hope they can get before their fates catch up with them. All eight episodes of the series will premiere on Prime Video on November 25.

Who Are the Creatives Behind ‘Blade Runner 2099’?

Blade Runner 2099 was created and showrun by Silka Luisa (Shining Girls). In addition to leads Yeoh and Schafer, the series also stars Dimitri Abold (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) and Lewis Gribben (Somewhere Boy). The series is based on characters and concepts from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the 1968 novel by Philip K. Dick, which was loosely adapted into the original Blade Runner. Scott, who directed the original film, is one of the series’ executive producers. Jonathan van Tulleken (Shogun) also executive produces, and directed the series’ first two episodes.
