Rogue One: A Star Wars Story continues to prove itself as one of the most fertile storytelling eras in the Star Wars galaxy. Keeping that momentum going, Lucasfilm revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that two new comic series inspired by the film are officially on the way, featuring a mix of fan-favorite heroes and iconic villains.

The first upcoming series shifts the spotlight to the memorable duo of Chirrut Îmwe (Donnie Yen) and Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen). Moviegoers were first introduced to the pair on the desert moon of Jedha alongside Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), and partisan leader Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker). Chirrut’s iconic mantra—“I am one with the Force and the Force is with me”—became a central symbol of unwavering faith in a galaxy stripped of the Jedi. This new comic run promises an exciting deep dive into their backstory, exploring how the pragmatic Baze and the deeply spiritual Chirrut first crossed paths, while offering deeper insight into Chirrut’s genuine connection to the Force.

The second title, brought to life by creators Jody Houser and Emilio Laiso, brings the terrifying scope of the Galactic Empire back to the comic book page. Set against the backdrop of the Rebellion’s desperate mission to steal the plans for the Death Star, the story focuses heavily on Darth Vader during a pivotal era that ultimately foreshadows his downfall. A major highlight of the series is its focus on the political friction between Vader and Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn). Expanding on their brief but memorable interaction in Rogue One—and drawing connections to Krennic’s presence in Andor—the comic digs into the dangerous hierarchy surrounding both Vader and the Emperor.
