When it comes to sci-fi TV shows, few platforms have as bountiful an offering as Apple TV, which has become the go-to streaming for many fans of the best science fiction shows. Some of the first shows that expectedly come to mind are Severance and Pluribus, which have been going back and forth over the last year setting records as the most-watched Apple TV sci-fi show in history. Just a few weeks ago, Apple TV brought back perhaps its most underrated sci-fi show in Silo, which is led by the legendary Rebecca Ferguson. Not only has Apple TV already renewed Silo for Season 4, but it was shot back-to-back with Season 3, meaning that it will likely return on a much quicker timeline than seasons past.
Another Apple TV show set to return next month is Dark Matter, which is based on the novel of the same name by Blake Crouch. Dark Matter Season 1 adapts the entirety of Crouch’s acclaimed sci-fi novel, which follows a man struggling to overcome the obstacles of the multiverse to get back to his wife and son. While most fans thought that the show would only run for one season, Apple TV renewed Dark Matter for Season 2, which is confirmed to premiere on August 28. This weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, Apple TV hosted a Dark Matter panel for the hit sci-fi series, even revealing the first official trailer for Season 2 of the show. Both Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly will return to star as Jason and Daniela in Season 2.
What Is ‘Dark Matter’ Season 2 About?
The first season of Dark Matter followed Jason (played by Joel Edgerton) trying to get back home to his family, and the second season will follow Jason and his family, now reuniting, searching for a safe universe to call home. The end of Dark Matter Season 1 saw Jason have to fight with near-infinite different versions of himself, but he ultimately made it back safely to Daniela and Charlie before they entered the box to find a new home. Season 2 took quite a while to film, and after a two-year hiatus, it’s fair to say expectations are high for the return of Apple TV’s multiversal, mind-bending sci-fi show.
