Fantasy TV shows have become more popular than anyone thought possible in the last few years. During the mid-2000s, Game of Thrones became the go-to show for fans of sweeping fantasy dramas, but the franchise has since expanded with ambitious spin-offs such as House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Meanwhile, Prime Video has positioned The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power as its big-budget fantasy show, and the studio has reportedly already spent over $1 billion into the making of the first two seasons. Prime Video canceled another of its popular fantasy shows reportedly for financial reasons, and fans still aren’t happy that The Wheel of Time isn’t getting the chance to come back for Season 4 after airing three full seasons.
The Wheel of Time was primarily written by Robert Jordan, but upon his tragic passing in 2007, Jordan’s widow and editor Harriet McDougal chose Brandon Sanderson to finish the series of novels. He even worked on episodes of the Prime Video series before it was canceled. Sanderson is also famous for writing the popular Mistborn fantasy novel series, which is being adapted into a movie on Apple TV. This afternoon, Sanderson provided an exciting update about his Mistborn movie, when he took to his personal Instagram to officially confirm that the first draft for the film is complete. He cautions fans not to get too excited, as this is “just an early step in a very long process,” but it’s still worth celebrating. He will certainly share more when Apple TV has had the chance to give feedback on his first draft.

The most popular TV show on Apple TV at the time of writing is Silo, starring Rebecca Ferguson. The hit sci-fi series is in the middle of its third season, and it’s already been confirmed that Season 4 will be the final season of the show. Following closely behind Silo on Apple TV streaming charts is Cape Fear and Lucky, a pair of crime thrillers featuring stars like Javier Bardem and Anya Taylor-Joy. As for movies, The Dink has taken over Apple TV right now, finally taking the top spot from Brad Pitt’s F1. Despite premiering last year on Valentine’s Day, Anya Taylor-Joy’s The Gorge is also still a streaming juggernaut over on Apple TV.
