‘Legends’: ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Cast Officially Returning for New “Meta Thriller” Series!!

The Sons of Anarchy are rolling back on to TV for a new limited series. While almost every principal character on the show was dead by the time the show’s seventh and final season concluded back in 2014, the whole gang is getting back together for an all-new miniseries that has to be seen to be believed. The series is coming to FX and Hulu, the series’ longtime cable and streaming homes.

Created by Kurt Sutter, the series revolved around the Sons of Anarchy, an outlaw motorcycle gang based out of Charming, California. Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) is the heir apparent to the gang’s leadership; his father was one of the founders of the gang, and his widowed mother, Gemma (Katey Sagal), is now married to the club’s current president, Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman). However, there’s more to the death of Jax’s father than he knows, and tensions between the two men (and the police, and the federal government, and several rival gangs, and every other member of the club…) soon erupt into an all-out war.

The cast of the series will reunite in the new series Legends, in which reality and fiction will smash into each other like two motorcycles on a collision course. Hunnam, Sagal, and Perlman are all back, as are series regulars Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates, and Theo Rossi. The series will see the cast play themselves; reuniting at a convention to commemorate Sons of Anarchy, they’re drawn into battle with a greater threat than any they ever faced on the small screen. It’s described as a “meta-thriller,” and sprung from the mind of star Hunnam. FX President of Entertainment Nick Grad calls it “an adventure that is both a love letter to the series and a fun meta twist on what fans think they know.

Who Are the Creatives Behind ‘Legends’?

Legends was created and developed by Hunnam and screen and stage star Jonathan Groff (Mindhunters). It will be Hunnam‘s first project for FX since Sons of Anarchy‘s conclusion in 2014; he recently garnered acclaim for his performance as the infamous Ed Gein in the latest installment of Ryan Murphy‘s real-life horror series Monster. Rob Mac, Nicholas Frenkel, and Jackie Cohn will also executive produce.

Legends is in development at FX and Hulu; no release date has yet been announced.
