The League of Gentlemen‘s Mark Gatiss has been a part of many a beloved franchise. From recent blockbusters including Fantastic Four: First Steps and Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning to penning several great episodes in the modern return of Doctor Who, Gatiss has proven himself a talented mind both on and off camera. Perhaps his most famous work came as co-creator of the brilliant modern-day interpretation of Sherlock, which is widely considered one of the best shows of the 21st century.
His most recent hit arrived in July last year, as Gatiss created, co-wrote, and starred in the cozy British crime drama Bookish. An instant hit for U&Alibi, with the debut episode recording the channel’s second-highest-performing premiere ever at 1.5 million viewers, Bookish delivered smart, easy-to-watch crime-solving with a cast of deliciously memorable characters. Following the first season’s success, a six-episode second season was confirmed, which Gatiss himself told Collider would be “more ambitious.”
But Gabriel Book and his unconventional crime-solving skills aren’t stopping there. It’s now been confirmed that, alongside a brand-new two-part festive special, a third season of Bookish is in development. The upcoming festive special episodes are titled Bookish: The Crown of Destiny, and “will see the appropriately named Gabriel Book (Gatiss) open the doors of Book’s Books on Archangel Lane for a brand-new story, bringing viewers a seasonal mystery packed with festive charm, surprises and a dash of Christmas spirit.” Production on Season 3 will begin later this year, with U&alibi promising that “the new episodes will deliver even more of the intrigue, wit and compelling mysteries that have made Bookish a favorite with audiences.”
Who Is Starring in ‘Bookish’ Season 2?
Season 2 of Bookish features Gatiss‘ Book investigating “the world of spiritualism as he helps to solve a baffling case involving medium Harold Sneed (Watkins) and a séance full of secrets.” But who is starring alongside the Doctor Who alum? As was teased in a tantalizing trailer that debuted earlier this year, returning faces include Polly Walker as Trottie Book, Connor Finch as Jack Blunt, Elliot Levey as Inspector Bliss, Blake Harrison as Sergeant Morris, and Buket Kömür as Nora. Guest stars for Season 2 include Jason Watkins as Harold Sneed, Miranda Richardson as Duchess Alberta, Simon Callow as ‘E’, Claire Skinner as Mrs Calthrop, and Youssef Kerkour as Yusuf.
Bookish Season 2 will premiere in the UK on Wednesday, 26 August 2026 on U&Alibi, with a release date on PBS in the U.S. unknown at the time of writing.
