If you’ve ever wondered if Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are related, you’re not alone. They’re not. The two Texas-born actors are just simply two friends from the second-largest state. But a new Apple TV series poses a fascinating question: What if Harrelson and McConaughey were actually brothers though? Playing fictionalized versions of themselves, the story revolves around Ma Mac (Holland Taylor) hinting that the two are similar because they might be related. And the trailer for the new series, Brothers, starts with McConaughey slapping his chest like The Wolf of Wall Street.

Set tp release on Apple TV starting on September 23, the series also stars Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan, and Oona Yaffe as well as Harrelson, McConaughey, and Taylor. From Emmy Award nominee and Peabody winner Lee Eisenberg, the series will premiere with two episodes, airing weekly then until November.

Brothers is described as follows: “Brothers follows McConaughey and Harrelson, who play fictionalized versions of themselves, and whose friendship is thrown into chaos when they uncover a decades-old secret: they might actually be brothers. After Woody’s daughter’s engagement falls apart, he loads up the family and heads to Austin for an extended stay at Matthew’s ranch. But what begins as a healing getaway quickly spirals when Matthew’s mother, Ma Mac (Taylor), accidentally lets slip a long-buried secret that the two friends might actually be brothers. As Woody turns the ranch upside down in pursuit of the truth, Matthew finds himself juggling an entirely different identity crisis: a potential run for Governor of Texas. The result is a heartfelt, chaotic, and wildly funny story about friendship, family, fame, and the messy line between myth and reality.”

Why Are Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey Such an Iconic Duo?

The two actors have been in other projects before. They both starred in the 2008 movie Surfer, Dude. But the project that people connect them to the most is the first season of True Detective. McConaughey and Harrelson set the tone for the anthology series and are still the fan favorite season. The point is: People love seeing McConaughey and Harrelson together and it’s even better when they’re playing themselves. Whether that means they’re actually (secretly) brothers or not.
