Plenty of great shows have blessed Hulu subscribers this summer. The prolific Ryan Murphy delivered yet another addictive streaming option with the teen thriller The Shards, based on author Bret Easton Ellis‘ fictionalized memoir; Elizabeth Meriwether gave subscribers a balanced dose of crime thrills and comedy with Furious, and the likes of Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) returned for a new season of Christopher Storer‘s culinary masterpiece The Bear.
Another series to debut this summer on Hulu is the latest project from The Office icon Mindy Kaling, one of the most important comedy names in modern American TV. After producing Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls, Kaling turned her attention to the final series in a “trilogy of shows that are about my life,” titled Not Suitable for Work. This Friends-esque coming-of-age comedy tracked the lives of “five work-obsessed 20-somethings” as they navigate adult life and all its chaos in Manhattan’s Murray Hill.
Starring an exciting young cast featuring Ella Hunt, Avantika, Will Angus, Jack Martin, Nicholas Duvernay, and Jay Ellis, this first solo creation from Kaling since The Mindy Project might’ve scored instant success on the streaming charts, but it seems that a middling critical reception and other factors have left higher-ups with no choice. As revealed in an exclusive by Variety, Not Suitable for Work has been officially cancelled after just one season. All nine episodes in the series are available to binge in full on Hulu now.

Although it has been given the ax after just one season, Not Suitable for Work still had its day in the streaming sun, winning over subscribers upon debut. But what is currently dominating the streamer? At the time of writing, the most-watched show on Hulu is the aforementioned Furious, featuring FBI agent Alice Black (Emmy Rossum) as she hunts a mysterious female serial killer. The most-watched movie on the platform in the U.S. is Busboys, a viral new comedy directed by Jonah Feingold.
