A new VisionQuest teaser has allowed fans to take a fresh look at Tommy Maximoff. It also shows Ultron meeting the Maximoff teen, with a quip that will make longtime MCU fans chuckle.
As established in MCU canon, Tommy Maximoff is the child of Vision and Wanda Maximoff. In WandaVision, a young Tommy displayed powers similar to his maternal uncle, Pietro Maximoff. Ultron, seemingly speaking to Tommy, tells him, “You’re a real son of a witch,” a reference to his mother, Wanda Maximoff.
Wanda Maximoff is presumed dead as of the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. She is rumored to make her return in Avengers: Doomsday as a lieutenant of Doctor Doom.
Tommy Maximoff’s Ultron encounter is just one part of what the new VisionQuest footage reveals
The new VisionQuest footage revealed Tommy Maximoff, now a teen like his brother Billy, struggling with his speed powers. It also showed him generating blue lightning, an effect that was absent from Quicksilver’s speed. Quicksilver, or Pietro Maximoff, only had a silvery-blue trailing aftereffect rather than crackling lightning.
Maximoff will likely overcome whatever issues he is facing with his speed. Other marketing material has shown him aiding Vision against Jocasta, played by T’Nia Miller. Tommy’s control over his powers seems to be much more settled in the footage, where he is able to essentially become a blur when using his speed.
Tommy and Billy both have both come into the powers that they displayed in WandaVision. In Marvel Comics, both brothers become important members of the Young Avengers. It has been rumored that younger heroes like Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, and Cassie Lang are going to have an important role to play in Secret Wars. It is likely that Billy and Tommy will join this team in a fight against Doctor Doom. This might bring the arc that is set up in WandaVision, Agatha All Along, and VisionQuest to a full circle if Wanda Maximoff is indeed part of the movie.
