A former Doctor Who star and nine others have joined BBC and BritBox’s upcoming Hercule Poirot show. The six-part origin TV series, based on Agatha Christie‘s books and featuring the iconic Belgian detective, was announced earlier this year.
Hercule Poirot has added Paul Forman, known for his role in Emily in Paris, to its ensemble. He also appeared in a Doctor Who episode, Rogue, as Lord Barton. Additionally, Deadline reports that Rivals and Harry Potter star Katherine Parkinson, Black Doves’ Omari Douglas, and Jane Eyre’s Toby Stephens have joined the show.
The murder-mystery show’s massive cast will also include Jessica Alexander, Honor Swinton Byrne, Arthur Hughes, Ralf Little, River Medway, and Natalie Quarry.
What else do we know about the new Hercule Poirot show?
BBC’s Hercule will follow the famous character and his personality in detail. The series will be based on three of Agatha Christie’s popular books. The first two have already been revealed, namely Lord Edgware Dies and Peril at End House. Full details on the third are still under wraps.
According to an official logline, the show will throw light on “Hercule’s burgeoning friendship with Captain Arthur Hastings, his early encounters with Scotland Yard’s James Japp, and introducing him to one particular nemesis.”
Edward Bluemel, known for Killing Eve, My Lady Jane, and Sex Education, will portray the titular character. At 33, Bluemel will become the youngest actor to play Hercule Poirot in a live-action project.
Acclaimed actor Kenneth Branagh last played the iconic character. He portrayed the detective in a popular trilogy, including Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, and A Haunting in Venice.
Benji Walters and Jonny Campbell are executive producers on the upcoming show. James Prichard, Rebecca Durbin, Damien Timmer, Nick Lambon, Robert Schildhouse, Jon Farrar, and Stephen Nye also serve as executive producers.
Hercule has not yet received an official release date.
