Marvel Studios is bringing Paul Bettany’s Vision to Disney+ for another chapter in his complicated MCU journey. With VisionQuest nearing its premiere, a recent video has unlocked interesting secrets about the questions that will drive his next adventure.
Marvel has released a 52-second video that uses holographic UI motifs, Stark Industries records, S.W.O.R.D. files on the Westview Incident, and Vision’s face to evoke digital file access into his traumatic memories like the Battle of Wakanda.
The visuals also connect Vision’s past to several major MCU elements, including Stark Industries, S.W.O.R.D., and the artificial intelligence systems that have been part of his existence.
VisionQuest continues the story after WandaVision and Agatha All Along, completing the television trilogy. The series follows Vision after he escapes attempts to weaponize him and goes into hiding while searching for a new purpose.
What happens in the new VisionQuest trailer?
The latest VisionQuest trailer pushes Vision’s story into even more dangerous territory. James Spader’s Ultron returns, and the trailer makes clear that Vision will once again have to deal with the artificial intelligence that played a major role in his creation and destruction.
Thomas Shepherd also becomes central to the story. Played by Ruaridh Mollica, the mysterious boy claims a connection to Vision and may be the reincarnation of his son. Vision must figure out the truth about Thomas while dealing with the consequences of his own fractured identity.
The trailer also shows Vision and Ultron heading toward another confrontation. Rather than simply revisiting their old conflict, the series places them in a new situation that forces Vision to confront his past while trying to understand what he has become.
In VisionQuest, Vision remains on the run from those who want to use him. Seeking guidance, he retreats into his internal “Mindspace” to interact with familiar AI personas embedded within his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S. and Ultron.
The series stars Bettany alongside Spader, Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T’Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, Emily Hampshire and James D’Arcy. Terry Matalas serves as showrunner, with Christopher J. Byrne, Gandja Monteiro, Vincenzo Natali, and Matalas directing episodes.
VisionQuest premieres on Disney+ on October 14, with the first two episodes arriving together.
