‘Miami Vice ’85’: Michael Irby Joins New Remake from ‘F1’ Director!!

Miami Vice ’85 has added a familiar face to its cast as production moves forward. The beloved Fast & Furious actor will star alongside Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler in the revival of the classic crime series.

According to Deadline, Michael Irby, who appeared in Fast Five, has joined the cast. Irby is set to play Lt. Lou Rodriguez, according to sources close to the production. Rodriguez is the head of the Metro-Dade Organized Crime Bureau-Vice Division.

Rodriguez is an original character from the 1984 series Miami Vice, who was originally played by Gregory Sierra. Back then, Sierra requested that the character be killed off after four episodes, as the actor did not want to move to Miami. It remains unclear whether Irby’s version of the character will follow the same storyline.

Irby is an American actor best known for his role as Obispo ‘Bishop’ Losa in Mayans M.C. and Zizi in the Fast & Furious franchise. His other acting credits include Barry, SEAL Team, Osiris, The Lincoln Lawyer, Last Seen Alive, and Breaking Tradition.

Who else is part of the Miami Vice ’85 cast?

Miami Vice ’85 is a new film revival of the classic television series and is currently in pre-production at Universal Pictures. The movie stars Jordan as Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs and Butler as James “Sonny” Crockett.

Moreover, John Leguizamo is reported to play the Cartel Boss and main villain. Additionally, Walton Goggins is credited as the Henchman on the official IMDb page. Other members of the ensemble include Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, Danny Ramirez, André Holland, and Edi Gathegi. However, their roles have not yet been disclosed.

Joseph Kosinski is directing Miami Vice ’85 on a screenplay written by Dan Gilroy and Eric Warren Singer, based on the series created by Anthony Yerkovich. The logline reads, “Vice detectives Crockett and Tubbs, from Miami-Dade’s organized crime bureau, go undercover as criminals to infiltrate and dismantle southern Florida’s criminal enterprises.”

Miami Vice ’85 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 19, 2028.
