‘City of God: The Fight Rages On’ Season 2 Gets a Trailer!! Check It Out!!

The battle for power in Rio de Janeiro is far from over. HBO Max has released the official trailer for Season 2 of City of God: The Fight Rages On, announcing a November 8 premiere date for the acclaimed Brazilian crime drama.

Produced by O2 Filmes, the six-episode second season serves as a direct continuation of the 2024 breakout series, itself a sequel to Fernando Meirelles’ Oscar-nominated 2002 masterpiece City of God.

The new season will show escalating gang warfare, political corruption, and community resistance in the favelas, exploring the volatile intersection between crime, justice, and local culture.

What happens in the City of God: The Fight Rages On Season 2 trailer?

The trailer gives a preview of a new chapter in the City of God community. The trailer teases the return of Cenoura, known as Carrot (Matheus Nachtergaele). The trailer opens with a gang war in the streets, where Carrot arrives with his crew to stop the violence, while Buscapé captures the conflict as it unfolds.

Then it shows the central conflict, which is the violent fight for the control of the territory following the death of drug lord Curió. Newly elected councilwoman Berenice, played by Roberta Rodrigues, takes on political corruption and the growing influence of the militia.

Meanwhile, lawyer Jerusa (Andréia Horta) is seeking revenge. Her personal story drives her pursuit of those responsible for destroying her family. Leka, played by Luellem de Castro, chooses a different path. She turns to culture, funk music, and dance parties. Her goal is to inspire unity, resistance, and hope among local residents.

Aly Muritiba directs the series, with Andrea Barata Ribeiro and Fernando Meirelles serving as producers. Maíra Oliveira and Paulo Lins lead the writers’ room, with additional contributions from several writers.

Ahead of the streaming debut, the new season’s first episode will have its world premiere at the 28th Rio Film Festival on Friday, October 9. In addition to HBO Max, it also premieres on HBO Latino on November 8.
