‘Silent Night, Deadly Night’: Rohan Campbell to Put on the Bloody Santa Claus Suit in Reboot!!

Terrifier 3 saw the glorious return of the Christmas-themed slasher last fall. Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting aren’t ready to stop making blood-red snow anytime as their reboot of the iconic and equally controversial 80s horror film Silent Night, Deadly Night will be coming down the chimney later this year. Fans of the slasher franchise have slowly been getting earlier seasonal treats like a teaser poster a few months back. Now, this version of Silent Night, Deadly Night has found their Billy in Halloween Ends star Rohan Campbell.

First reported by Bloody Disgusting, the reimagining is “blending psychological horror, brutal slasher thrills and a touch of the supernatural and, shockingly, a sprinkle of romance, the new film hopes to deliver a modern new take on the ultimate holiday nightmare.” Silent Night, Deadly Night is written and directed by Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn). Original franchise producers Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead also return to produce the project.

While Campbell has been acting for over a decade with TV roles in Supernatural and iZombie under his belt, he burst onto the mainstream scene with Halloween Ends in 2022. The final part in David Gordon Green’s Halloween legacy trilogy has been one of the most controversial horror films in recent memory. Campbell was at the center of that as his character Corey Cunningham became a tragic protégé of sorts to Michael Myers. Regardless of your personal thoughts on the movie itself, Campbell showcased his killer range in that risk-taking trilogy capper. He’s forever bonded to the genre thanks to Halloween, but since then he has stuck to horror thanks to his appearance in Sabrina Carpenter’s music video for “Taste” last year, where the actor played the ill-fated ex-boyfriend in a Death Becomes Her-inspired scenario. Campbell also recently played a small part in Osgood Perkins’ latest horror comedy, The Monkey. Because of that, there couldn’t be a better actor to take on the Billy persona. In the original 1984 slasher, Billy witnesses the murder of his parents as a young boy at the hands of a criminal dressed as Santa Claus. Years later, that repressed trauma boils over when he’s forced to play Santa for his job at a local toy store. He snaps to the point where he goes on a murderous rampage in town. His mission is to punish all the “naughty” people he comes across. That premise of a killer Santa would help it become a cult classic, while also getting it pulled from theaters quickly due to outcry about its mature seasonal subject matter.

When Does ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night’ Release?

The Silent Night, Deadly Night reboot doesn’t have a concrete release date yet, but it’s set to debut in theaters this holiday season. Bloody Disgusting has even teased more frosty updates in the coming weeks. Until then, you can stream the original film on The Roku Channel.
