‘Longlegs’ Is Free to Watch on Kanopy, a New Streaming App to Sign Up with a Library Card!!

One of the scariest horror films of 2024 has found a new streaming home – but there’s a big catch. Neon‘s Longlegs, the feature from Osgood Perkins about an FBI agent’s hunt for a deranged serial killer, is now available to watch for free on Kanopy, a little-known streaming service that provides free films and television shows to people with library cards. The film is also streaming on Hulu, but this gives viewers without Hulu a chance to catch it for no cost.

Longlegs is currently available in Kanopy‘s library; in order to sign up for the free service, users must enter their public library card number or a university student ID. From there, Kanopy allows users to watch a certain number of films and television programs for free, much as they would do if they were checking out a book at a library. People shouldn’t have much of a problem signing up; Kanopy currently works with about 10,000 U.S. libraries and half of the top universities in the country, according to IndieWire.

‘Longlegs’ Was One of the Scariest Films of 2024

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Longlegs has been added to Kanopy‘s collection, given its box office success and overall popularity. The film stars Maika Monroe as Lee Harker, an up-and-coming FBI agent who is tasked with solving a series of gruesome murders by a mysterious serial killer known only as Longlegs (Nicolas Cage). Harker works to connect the dots of the killings and eventually tracks down Longlegs. However, it becomes clear that there is more to Longlegs’ story than meets the eye – and that Harker has more to do with his killings than she may realize.

The film received high praise, becoming one of Neon’s highest-grossing films with a box office haul of $126.9 million (on a budget of less than $10 million). “Longlegs takes a bit to get us settled into its brand of horror, but once it does, it’s hard not to be impressed by the place between here and there where we find ourselves,” Collider‘s Ross Bonaime said in his review.

The film was directed by Perkins, who is no stranger to horror projects; the son of horror icon Anthony Perkins also directed the Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, starring Tatiana Maslany and Theo James. He is also teaming with Maslany again for another horror film, Keeper, set to hit theaters this October. Perkins directed Longlegs from a self-written script. The film was produced by Cage for his Saturn Films production company, alongside Dave Caplan for C2 Motion Picture Group, Dan Kagan, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Chris Ferguson.

Longlegs is streaming on Hulu and Kanopy now.
