‘Carrie’: Matthew Lillard in Talks to Join Mike Flanagan Series!!

The Scream King continues his reign. Matthew Lillard has officially secured his next takeover in a horror project, with Deadline revealing that the Scream actor is in talks to star in Mike Flanagan’s series adaptation of Carrie. The project would mark a reunion for the pair, who worked alongside one another on the upcoming The Life of Chuck, which, like Carrie, is also a Stephen King adaptation. It’s incredibly exciting news for audiences who have loved watching Lillard take over the genre since his standout role as psychotic killer Stu Macher in Wes Craven’s iconic, franchise-starting 1996 film, Scream — a role that he’s set to reprise in 2026’s Kevin Williamson-helmed Scream 7.

As of right now, no specific details surrounding Lillard’s Carrie character have been confirmed. However, we know that the actor woulld join a lineup of talent that also includes new-to-the-scene Summer H. Howell, who is on-board to play the titular character. Additionally, Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) joins as Sue Snell. Flanagan will serve as the project’s showrunner and also pens and executive produces the series. The iconic genre filmmaker, who has previously helmed similar titles like Oculus and Doctor Sleep, will also direct a handful of episodes.

For those not in the know, Carrie centers around a teenage girl named Carrie White, who is ostracized by her peers and brutally bullied by her schoolmates. When she discovers that she has telekinetic powers, the tables turn, and she takes her vengeance on not only her harassers but also her incredibly religious mother, who has kept her under lock and key. The Amazon series is far from the first time that King’s iconic and career-starting book has made its way onto the screen. In 1976, Sissy Spacek took on the role of Carrie in a legendary film helmed by Brian De Palma. More recently, Chloë Grace Moretz coated herself in pig’s blood in Kimberly Peirce’s 2013 remake.

What Else Is Matthew Lillard Up To?

As mentioned at the top, Lillard is set to reprise his role as Stu Macher in the Kevin Williamson-helmed feature, Scream 7. Seeing how the character seemingly died at the end of the first film, fans are eager to see what magic screenwriter Guy Busick is conjuring to work him back into the plot. Additionally, he’ll also reprise his villainous role in the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, which is set for a theatrical release on December 5. On the small screen, Lillard will step into the MCU through a recently announced role in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again as well as Season 2 of Amazon’s Cross.
