‘Scrubs’ Reboot Gets an Update!!

The Scrubs reboot series just got a major update from Disney TV boss Eric Schrier. After months of rumors, it was finally announced at the end of last year that a Scrubs reboot series was officially in development. While details about the project have been kept under wraps since the announcement, it has been confirmed that original creator Bill Lawrence will work on the show once more. It’s unclear at this time if any members of the original cast will return or if the show will feature new stars. Schrier recently sat down for a tell-all interview with Deadline to talk about the future of Disney TV, and he was asked if the reboot is coming together and if he’s confident that it’s going to happen:

I’m optimistic that it will happen. I don’t know exactly what the specifics are on it today, but ultimately, I think the creative team really wants to figure out how to do it. Obviously it’s very complicated because of the business terms. So my feeling is, when there’s a creative desire, you usually figure these things out, but we’ll see.”

While it sounds like it isn’t set in stone and still has a long way to go, if Schrier is confident that the Scrubs reboot series will one day come to fruition, we should be too. Zach Braff stars in the original Scrubs series as Dr. John Dorian, and although it’s yet to be announced if he’ll round out the cast of the reboot, his performance in the show will endure as one of the most memorable of his career. Starring alongside Braff in Scrubs is Donald Faison as Dr. Christopher Turk, and he and John C. McGinley are the only two stars to appear in every episode of the medical drama/sitcom. McGinley plays Dr. Perry Cox. Ken Jenkins also stars in Scrubs as Dr. Bob Kelso, with Sarah Chalke and Neil Flynn filling out the rest of the cast as Dr. Elliot Reed and the Janitor.

What Else Has ‘Scrubs’ Creator Bill Lawrence Worked On?

Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence has also become famous for his work on Ted Lasso, the Apple TV+ original series led by Jason Sudeikis that’s collected a shelf full of Emmys through three seasons. He also returned to Apple TV+ last year with his work on Bad Monkey, the comedy series starring Vince Vaughn that’s already been renewed for Season 2. Lawrence will also team up with The Office star Steve Carell for a new HBO comedy series that’s also tapped Ted Lasso veteran Phil Dunster for a role.

It’s unknown at this time when the Scrubs reboot will begin filming or when it will be released.
