‘King of the Hill’: First Poster Teases the Upcoming Reboot!! Check It Out!!

Yep, yep, yep, mm-hmm. At long last, our first look at Hulu‘s King of the Hill reboot is here with a new poster that offers a view into modern-day Arlen, Texas. Hank Hill and his pals are back to drinking beer together, but technology appears to be catching up with them. While Hank is still as rooted in tradition as ever, Bill, Dale, and Boomhauer are embracing modern convenience, whether by ordering from the in-universe Mega Lo Eats or playing with a VR headset. This small glimpse into how their world has changed comes as Mike Judge and Greg Daniels‘ beloved adult animated series prepares to return to selling propane and propane accessories this summer.

Thus far, details about the much-anticipated revival have been slim, though the reveal of the poster via an official King of the Hill X account indicates that we’re about to learn a lot more very soon. The cast and creators are also set to appear at the ATX TV Festival, which kicks off on May 29, to pull back the curtain on what to expect from the return to Arlen. Appearance-wise, Hank and the boys haven’t changed much, only appearing slightly older and grayer than when they were last seen on-screen in 2009. Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich previously teased, however, that viewers will “see Hank in a whole new way with the series as it leans into the many changes in the world since the Hill family said goodbye.

One thing that is for certain, though, is that many of the same voices will be heard giving life to Arlen’s colorful residents. Judge will once again play the propane salesman Hank with Kathy Najimy back as his wife Peggy and Pamela Adlon returning as his sensitive son Bobby, who has since translated his love of cooking from his days working the grill with his dad into a successful culinary career. Stephen Root and Johnny Hardwicke also reprise their roles as Bill Dauterive and Dale Gribble, respectively, but it remains to be seen how much the latter will be featured, considering Hardwicke‘s death in 2023. He reportedly recorded “a couple” of episodes before his passing, according to TV Line.

What Was the Original ‘King of the Hill’ About?

Premiering in 1997, King of the Hill followed the hard-working and disciplined Hank, who sold propane and propane accessories through the local Strickland Propane. Throughout the series, his traditional conservative values and way of life were challenged by the ever-changing world around him and the bizarre, yet relatable residents of Arlen, including his own friends and co-workers, as he tried to navigate the mundanity of life with his family. He tried his best to raise his son Bobby right with a firm but gentle hand, though he often found himself confused by Bobby’s interest in less traditional professions like cooking and prop comedy. The reboot figures to play on similar themes, only with Bobby now grown-up and technology reaching a level that can’t be entirely avoided.
