The sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has been delayed to 2027. Paramount Pictures has announced that the next installment of the franchise has abandoned its previously scheduled release date, as the studio figures out the next steps for its animation division. The sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem was supposed to be launched on October 9, 2026, a release date that is now designated for The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender. Audiences will have to wait a little bit longer to find out what New York City will look like after the events of Mutant Mayhem.
Jeff Rowe will return to direct the next installment of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. The filmmaker included Shredder at the end of the first movie with the intention of the iconic villain becoming the main antagonist of the sequel. The new release date for the movie is confirmed to be September 17, 2027. Paramount has that spot on the calendar all for themselves for the time being. The only competition currently scheduled won’t arrive until a couple of weeks later, when audiences return to Gotham City thanks to The Batman: Part II on October 1, 2027.
One of the most appealing aspects of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem was the stellar voice cast the studio recruited to breathe new life into the franchise. Ayo Edebiri, Jackie Chan, and Paul Rudd were some of the artists who were featured in the animated project. A new TMNT origin story, Mutant Mayhem saw Donatello (Micah Abbey), Michaelangelo (Shamon Brown Jr.), Leonardo (Nicolas Cantu), and Raphael (Brady Noon) protect New York City from a conflict that had the potential to destroy the city.
TMNT at the Box Office
Paramount is feeling confident about the future of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles after the positive critical reception Mutant Mayhem encountered upon release. The animated movie also managed to earn $180 million at the global box office, even though it was launched almost at the end of the summer. A decade before these animated movies started production, the studio produced live-action adaptations of the material, with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles earning $485 million at the global box office. The sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, walked away with $245 million. The upcoming animated sequel to Mutant Mayhem has the potential to become yet another box office hit for Paramount.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2 will be released on September 17, 2027.
