Nothing is more dangerous than a man with nothing to lose. In the new K-drama series by Netflix, a man is preparing to go John Wick in the crime underworld of Korea after his brother is brutally killed. Mercy For None is debuting on the streaming platform in just a few days, and today a trailer was revealed to dig a little deeper in the gritty revenge story. The series is set to premiere on June 6.
The trailer of Mercy For None indicates that, as the title suggests, Ki-jun (So Ji-seob) will stop at nothing in his quest to discover the real reason why his brother Nam Ki-seok (Lee Jun-hyuk) was killed. In the story, both of them were part of a gang for many years before asking to leave. Part of their deal included leaving Ki-jun’s brother alone, and something happened to make mob bosses break that rule. Without fearing for his life, the former killer becomes a one-man-army to eliminate everyone that crosses his path.
At the same time, the trailer also suggests that Mercy For None won’t shy away from some harder subjects. The funeral scene at the beginning shows a distraught Ki-jun who looks like someone who’s lost his way. This might make it easier for audiences to root for his plan to work. It also reveals more cast members, which include Gong Myoung (Way Back Love), Choo Young Woo (The Trauma Code: Heroes On Call), An Kil-kang (Watcher), Cho Han-cheul (The Wailing), and Cha Seung Won (Uprising).
Is ‘Mercy For None’ Based On a Manhwa?
Manwha series are becoming increasingly popular. The South Korean equivalent to the Japanese manga has already inspired the creation of massively successful anime series like Solo Leveling and Tower of God, and also live-action shows like Sweet Home, Hellbound and Itaewon Class. However, Mercy For None is not exactly a part of this trend. The story is based on a webtoon — a comic book that is normally only released online and destined for readers to experience on the cellphone screen.
Mercy For None will be another exciting title in the ever-growing Netflix library of K-dramas. This year, the streamer is bulking up its catalog with massive titles like mystery thriller Dear Hongrang, period drama When Life Gives You Tangerines and the final season of Squid Game.
