Now that the premiere of The Sandman Season 2 is just around the corner, Netflix decided to drop a new trailer for the upcoming final season and provide a closer look at what we can expect to see in the next episodes. They will be released in two batches: Volume 1 debuts on July 3 and Volume 2 on July 24. Then, on July 31, fans will get a special episode that is entirely centered on fan-favorite character Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste). You can check out the trailer in this article.
The first and most notable element of The Sandman season 2’s new trailer is that it brings to life a moment that has been teased during the many years that the series was on hiatus. We will finally see the family reunited as Dream (Tom Sturridge) goes to the Endless realm to talk to all his siblings. As Death warns him, Dream is becoming too involved with his mission, and that is starting to become a problem that puts his existence at risk. “Everyone loves a good story,” Death says. “But all stories come to an end.”
Season 2 will also bring its share of familiar faces to the screen. Once again, Dream will go all the way to hell to challenge Lucifer Morningstar (Gwendoline Christie) and save someone who has been trapped there. Both entities came head-to-head before, and Lucifer has been waiting for a chance for revenge. Might that be it? Is the ruler of the darkness the one who will exterminate Morpheus forever? The new images underscore the new and returning characters from the series.
Was ‘The Sandman’ Supposed To End With Season 2?
Fans have had to wait three years for a new season of The Sandman. Now, the episodes come with a bittersweet taste after some horrific abuse allegations against franchise creator Neil Gaiman (Good Omens) came to light. After it happened, Netflix announced that Season 2 would be the last one of the series. Despite the timing, showrunner Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman) released an official statement revealing that it was always the plan to end the story with only two seasons. The original Sandman has several volumes, but Heinberg stated that the plan was always to focus on the story of Morpheus, meaning that they didn’t plan to cover segments in which the protagonist is barely present.
According to Netflix, the new season of The Sandman will adapt fan-favorite story arcs from the comics, including the Season of Mists, Brief Lives, The Kindly Ones, and The Sandman: Overture. Additionally, some single-issue stories like Tales in the Sand, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Song of Orpheus, Thermidor, and The Tempest, and others have also served as inspiration for the new episodes.
Part 1 of The Sandman Season 2 premieres on July 3. Part 2 debuts on July 24. The bonus episode rolls out on July 31. You can check out the trailer below.
