After years of multiverse mayhem and Avengers-scale cataclysms, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is officially returning to his roots — and this time, it’s personal. During a roundtable conversation attended by Collider’s Steve Weintraub for Fantastic Four, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day will shift Peter Parker’s focus back to the streets of New York alongside Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle aka The Punisher. Feige says Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks the beginning of a “proper Spider-Man” era in the MCU.
“I think there’s a promise at the end of No Way Home, that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories him being a proper Spider-Man. Him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with — for lack of better terms — street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events.”
Feige went on to explain why this new direction opens the door to characters we haven’t seen Holland’s Spider-Man interact with yet — including one that hardcore fans have long been waiting for.
“So when you do that, you say, okay, who are the other street-level characters that we’ve never seen him interact with? And of course, I love that The Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic. That great cover… I don’t want to say too much, but Destin — I will say too much — Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie, which starts shooting very soon. And he’s got eight or nine comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie, which is super cool.”
When Is ‘Spider-Man’ Brand New Day Out?
As previously reported from CinemaCon 2025, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters July 31, 2026, with Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) directing. The title is a nod to the controversial 2008 comic storyline in which Peter Parker starts over after striking a deal with Mephisto to erase his marriage and secret identity from existence. While we don’t expect the literal devil to show up just yet (though, with Ironheart now canonically involving Mephisto, who knows?), the theme of Peter living in anonymity is now a major part of the MCU.
At the end of No Way Home, Peter chose to let MJ and Ned go, erasing himself from their memories and moving into a rundown apartment, suit sewn by hand, police scanner on the desk — a scene ripped straight from the classic comics. Feige’s latest comments confirm that this version of Peter will finally lean into that grounded, “scrappy loner with great power and greater guilt” vibe fans have been craving.
