‘Batman & Deadpool’ Crossover Gets New Variant Covers!! Check It Out!!

In 2006, Batman faced off against Deathstroke, whose personality is similar to Deadpool, in Superman/Batman Annual #1. Now, after 20 years, the two franchises meet once more. This time it’s a team-up with the Merc with a Mouth and the Caped Crusader. Deadpool/Batman #1 is an upcoming one-shot comic book by Zeb Wells, along with Kevin Smith, Kelly Thompson, Chip Zdarsky, Al Ewing and Frank Miller, where Deadpool and Batman team up for an epic adventure alongside other Marvel and DC characters, and it’s scheduled to be released this year.

The cover for this upcoming comic was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con, featuring a variety of DC and Marvel characters, with Batman and Deadpool firmly in the spotlight. Meanwhile, the comic will showcase other potential team-ups, like Rocket Raccoon with Green Lantern, Wonder Woman with Captain America, and Jeff the Land Shark with Krypto the Superdog. This comic will feature different variant covers, illustrated by Russell Dauterman, Frank Miller, and Daniel Warren Johnson. Following its release, the next installment, Batman/Deadpool, is scheduled to hit shelves in November 2025.

DC and Marvel have crossed paths in various comic book stories from time to time. The first Marvel/DC comic crossover was Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man, published in 1976, and was written by Gerry Conway. Meanwhile, Batman’s first DC team-up was with the Incredible Hulk, which occurred in DC Special Series #27, published in 1981. In 2003, JLA/Avengers was published, which was a four-issue crossover comic where the Justice League and the Avengers work together to stop Krona from destroying the multiverse. The last issue was released in February 2004.

Will Marvel and DC Studios Have a Live-Action Crossover?

While DC and Marvel have had many crossover events in the comics, it has yet to happen in a live-action setting, especially since superhero projects have been appearing more frequently in theaters and on streaming platforms. While nothing has been confirmed, there have been talks to make it happen. DC‘s co-chair, James Gunn, has expressed interest in working on a crossover project between the two franchises. But in an interview with Rolling Stone, he stated that it could only work if the project comes from a genuine place of storytelling.

Meanwhile, two Marvel and DC stars have also expressed interest in entering their rival franchise. Patty Guggenheim, who played Madisynn in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, is open to the idea of a wacky team-up with Sara Sampaio‘s Superman character, Eve Teschmacher. Additionally, John Cena stated during Fan Expo that a crossover between DC and Marvel would enable room for creativity between the two studios, as well as allowing him to enter the other cinematic universe as Peacemaker, but it would only work if the two studios are willing to collaborate.

Deadpool/Batman enters comic bookshelves on September 17, 2025.
