Vince Gilligan, the mastermind behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, is back on TV after a three-year absence. His new Apple TV+ series was announced back in 2022, and now we have a title, a release date, and a mysterious teaser. Pluribus will premiere on Apple TV+ on November 7, 2025, and will center around “the most miserable person on Earth” who “must save the world from happiness.” Pluribus (which means “many” or “several” in Latin) is a science fiction series set, much like Gilligan‘s previous two series, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It will star Rhea Seehorn, who earned rave reviews in Better Call Saul as lawyer Kim Wexler.
However, Seehorn is not in evidence in the teaser, which is titled “Happiness Is Contagious” and opens in a commercial building at night. As crickets chirp outside, a woman carefully removes donuts from a box, one by one, and gives them a big lick, Ariana Grande-style, before putting them back. That probably isn’t what the cheerful, handwritten sign reading “Help yourself!” was meant to convey. The sign bears a smiley face, much like the video’s preview image, which features a similar design drawn in agar in a petri dish. What does it all mean? You’ll have to tune into Apple TV+ this fall to find out.
Who Is Vince Gilligan?
Born in Richmond, Virginia, Vince Gilligan‘s first produced screenplay was for the romantic comedy Wilder Napalm, about a pair of pyrokinetic brothers competing for the same woman; it was a critical and commercial disappointment. Shortly afterward, however, Gilligan submitted a spec script to Fox‘s supernatural procedural, The X-Files. It was accepted, and Gilligan soon became one of the show’s most prolific writers, penning thirty episodes of the series. One of these episodes, “Drive,” introduced him to future Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston. Gilligan eventually became a producer on the series and also executive-produced the show’s short-lived spin-off, The Lone Gunmen. After The X-Files ended, Gilligan created Breaking Bad for AMC. The tale of a science teacher-turned-meth kingpin was a huge hit for the cable network, and spawned a spin-off prequel, Better Call Saul, and a sequel movie, El Camino.
In addition to Seehorn, Pluribus will also star Karolina Wydra (House), Carlos-Manuel Vesga (The Luckiest Man in America), and guest star Miriam Shor (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) and Samba Schutte (Our Flag Means Death). It will be produced by Gilligan, Gordon Smith, Alison Tatlock, Diane Mercer, Allyce Ozarski, and Jeff Frost. Jenn Carroll and Trina Siopy serve as co-executive producers.
