Marvel Studios is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. We have already got the first official look at Tom Holland’s new suit, a new set video showcasing the first day of the shoot, and the fan videos don’t stop as the Destin Daniel Cretton-helmed movie films in Glasgow, Scotland. But the movie’s best tease yet is coming from its cast, specifically actor Mac Gargan, who previously teased his return as Michael Mando aka the Scorpion, in the upcoming feature.
Now, the actor has taken to his Instagram stories to tease the transformation of his character with two images. In the first image, we see him in the hair and makeup chair with a mangled look created by the help of prosthetics, one can also see all the tattoos the character has. The second image stands out more than Gargan’s looks as he cryptically shared the variant cover for 2008’s Amazing Spider-Man #573 comic by artist Kevin Maguire, which shows the Scorpion being taken over by the Venom symbiote.
Venom Has Already Been Seen in the MCU
For the uninitiated, character rights for Spider-Man and related properties like Venom, Morbius, and more belong to Sony, so, it’s always a tricky situation as to which Spidey-related character can appear in the MCU, but Spider-Man: No Way Home changed that with its post-credit scene that brought Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and Venom to the shared universe. While they did not get face-to-face with Holland’s Spider-Man, they did leave behind some Venom goo; a plot point Brand New Day can use to justify Gargan’s transformation in the movie. Hardy has finished his Venom trilogy, and despite fans wanting him to go up against Holland’s Spider-Man, that dream feels far-fetched as of now. Still, the addition of the Venom symbiote to the MCU could open many avenues for the overarching story as we inch closer to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
As for Brand New Day, the movie is currently filming some big action pieces in Scotland. It’s full of exciting talent with the inclusion of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, along with Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, and more. While plot details are kept tightly under wraps, the movie will pick up in the aftermath of No Way Home, which ended with everyone forgetting who Peter Parker is.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slated for release in July 2026.
