Aaron Taylor-Johnson has consistently been named as one of the potential frontrunners to take over the mantle of James Bond, but while it remains to be seen if he’s the next 007, you can still catch him in a film with similar feelings: Sky Cinema has released the first look at Fuze, an upcoming heist thriller film starring Taylor-Johnson and Theo James in a high-octane adventure set in the U.K.
The image, shared by Sky on its social media accounts, shows off Taylor-Johnson peering down the barrel of a sniper rifle, presumably locked onto a dangerous target. Plot details about the film remain largely slim, but it’s known that Fuze will follow a bomb squad that must defuse an unexploded World War II ordinance when it’s found in the middle of a London construction site. But the city’s preoccupation with the bomb turns out to be the perfect distraction for a heist.
Fuze will also star Sam Worthington, Guga Mbatha-Raw, and Saffron Hocking. The film was directed by David MacKenzie, who previously worked with Taylor-Johnson in 2018’s historical drama Outlaw King. MacKenzie directed from a script by Ben Hopkins. The film was produced by Gillian Berrie for MacKenzie‘s Sigma Films banner alongside Sebastien Raybaud and Callum Grant for Anton.
Taylor-Johnson Has Become an Action Star
Taylor-Johnson has made a significant name for himself in Hollywood in films like Kick-Ass and Godzilla. But it was his turn as the speedy Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver in the MCU film Avengers: Age of Ultron that solidified him as an action star. He would go onto portray action heroes and villains in films like The King’s Man, Bullet Train, The Fall Guy, and Kraven the Hunter.
Taylor-Johnson has been in numerous high-profile projects in recent years, The Fall Guy and Kraven the Hunter among them. Most recently, he took less of an action role in the 2024 horror film Nosferatu from director Robert Eggers, but returned to the action front in Danny Boyle’s film 28 Years Later, a zombie epic in which he starred alongside Jodie Comer. Taylor-Johnson is also set to star in the sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, set for a 2026 release.
Fuze is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September; no wide release date has been announced. Taylor-Johnson‘s 28 Years Later is streaming now.
