If you’ve been hyped up for the new HBO series starring Mark Ruffalo (Now You See Me: Now You Don’t), you will be happy to know that the network decided to unveil a new trailer for Task today, which showcases some key elements of the thriller show. The story centers around an FBI agent (Ruffalo) leading a task force that investigates a series of weird robberies in Philadelphia. The series is set to premiere on September 7 with weekly episodes rolling out. You can check out the new trailer in this article.
The trailer for Task makes one thing clear: this will be a nuanced series that will offer the perspective of the investigating team led by Ruffalo’s character Tom and the criminals’ POV. The outlaw team is spearheaded by Robbie (Tom Pelphrey), a guy who’s clearly lived through loss and despair, and has probably reached the point-of-no-return in his life. The question that the trailer proposes is: does he have the right to ruin the lives of everyone around him as he goes on his downward spiral?
On the other hand, we have Tom, an agent who’d rather be doing something else than running after a gang of thieves. He has his own issues and a difficult relationship with his daughter, but he is told point-blank by his boss Kathleen (Martha Plimpton) that there’s no way around this case. Whatever happens during the investigation, it’s safe to say that the story is not going to end well for at least some of the characters of Task.
Expectations Are High For ‘Task’
Task marks the return of high-profile writer Brad Ingelsby to television after shocking audiences to their core with the hit series Mare of Easttown. Ingelsby creates, writes, and showruns the series, and he recruited the talents of Thuso Mbedu (The Woman King), Raúl Castillo (Smile 2), Jamie McShane (1923), Sam Keeley (William Tell), Fabien Frankel (House of the Dragon), and many others for the cast.
During an interview with Collider‘s Maggie Lovitt, Ingelsby underscored the duality of Task‘s approach and how faith plays a major role in the story of both lead characters. He stated:
“I was just really trying to come up with a plot to explore these two characters. [Mark] Ruffalo, of course, being a guy that had experienced this tremendous tragedy in his life, and then the [Tom] Pelphrey character, who has a different level of faith and different understanding of faith, and there’s a sort of childlike kind of quality about him. I really like the idea of setting these guys on a collision course.”
HBO premieres Task on September 7. The seven episodes of the series will roll out weekly. You can check out the trailer above.
