Out of the sewers and onto the streets, It will soon arrive in cinemas for a re-release. We didn’t mean to make that rhyme, but it feels right. As fans prepare to usher in a new era thanks to the HBO Max series, It: Welcome to Derry, those at the top thought it would be a good idea to refresh minds and bring the first part of Andy Muschietti’s horrific film series back to the big screen. Beginning on September 24 at participating AMC locations, It: Chapter One will delight in terrifying viewers all over again in the movie that saw Bill Skarsgård first don the makeup and ghoulish grin of the titular monster.
The re-release will get the full Dolby treatment, with top-notch sound quality for what’s sure to be an unforgettable experience. On top of that, those who are brave enough to see Pennywise claim his victims will also get a new look at It: Welcome to Derry, which bows on HBO Max on October 26. As of right now, separate screenings of It: Chapter Two haven’t been announced, but we’d wager if the first re-release is a success, the studio will drop the second part as well.
In It: Chapter One, Muschietti took the beloved Stephen King tale and adapted it into feature-length form, crafting the early days of The Losers’ Club and the fateful rainy, abysmal day on which a paper boat was launched and started it all. Featuring a talented young cast that included Jaeden Lieberher, Sophia Lillis, Jack Dylan Grazer, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, and Finn Wolfhard, the film laid the groundwork for the two-film series as the youngsters did everything in their power to vanquish the evil clown known as Pennywise (Skarsgård).
What Is ‘It: Welcome to Derry’?
Just as filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer did with Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, It: Welcome to Derry will explore the chapters of King’s classic novel that were untouched in Muschietti’s films. In fact, Muschietti is back on board as the title’s co-creator alongside Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, with Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane serving as showrunners. The project, which is set in 1962, will center on other disasters that take place in the book ahead of the arrival of The Losers’ Club. Those who are in the know when it comes to Pennywise’s lore will remember that the entity appears every 27 years in a cycle, with the series focusing on the cycle prior to that of The Losers’ Club.
Tickets are now on sale for AMC’s re-release of It: Chapter One.
