The sequel to Jason Statham’s The Beekeeper just took a massive step forward as filming grows closer by the day. News broke this morning that Yara Shahidi has joined the cast of Jason Statham’s The Beekeeper 2, which is in the works at Miramax and Amazon MGM. Shahidi has recently garnered acclaim for her performances in Grown-Ish and Black-Ish, but she’s also known for her small role in Angelina Jolie’s Salt. Details about whom she could be playing are being kept under wraps, but she joins Statham and the previously announced Jeremy Irons, who is back to reprise his role as Wallace Westwyld in the action sequel.
The Beekeeper was a global sensation upon its release in 2024. The film earned a solid 71% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but it came out of the gates with a Verified Hot 92% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. It parlayed this success into strong numbers at the box office, too. The Beekeeper quadrupled its $40 million budget, turning in a $160 million global performance. The film follows a former agent of the secret Beekeeper organization who comes out of retirement to take vengeance on a dangerous corporation when someone close to him is killed.
In addition to Statham and Irons, The Beekeeper also stars Josh Hutcherson, famous for his role in The Hunger Games movies. He’s not expected back for the sequel after his character died in the original. Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, David Witts, and more also star in the film. David Ayer directed The Beekeeper with a script from Kurt Wimmer, but only Wimmer is back for the sequel. Timo Tjahjanto (Nobody 2) has boarded The Beekeeper 2 as director in place of Ayer.
When Is ‘The Beekeeper 2’ Coming Out?
Amazon MGM and Miramax have yet to announce when The Beekeeper 2 will be released. The film is scheduled to begin production soon, and Statham was even spotted with his signature Beekeeper beard not long ago. This leaves the most likely window for release sometime in the second half of 2026. The Beekeeper 2 will likely wrap filming near the end of this year or early next year, and the team will certainly need several months of post-production to make sure everything is up to snuff. Jason Statham’s Mutiny is also expected to be released next summer after being delayed from January 9, 2026.
