It’s hardly been 24 hours since Netflix dropped all eight episodes of its newest Tom Clancy adaptation, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, and now the streamer has issued a major announcement about the show’s future. Netflix has officially confirmed that Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch has been renewed and will move forward with a second season. Plot details for Season 2 have not yet been announced and are likely still being finalized by creator Derek Kolstad, who is expected to return for Season 2. Deathwatch debuted with a strong 88% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and it’s already in the Netflix top 10.
Starring in the lead role of Sam Fisher is Liev Schreiber, the nine-time Emmy nominee who is also famous for his roles in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Spotlight, and The Manchurian Candidate. Starring alongside him are Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Zinnia McKenna, Janet Varney as Anna Grimsdottir, Helen Hong as Jo Ahn, Karl Wahlgren as Diana Shetland, Walles Hamonde as Bertrand, and more. Back in August as part of our Exclusive Preview Event, Collider debuted a new image of Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. Collider readers who stay tuned could very well be treated to an exclusive image of Season 2 when the time is right, which may be sooner than expected.
The logline for Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch reads as follows: “In this first-ever adaptation of the acclaimed stealth video game franchise Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, legendary agent Sam Fisher is drawn back into the field when a wounded young operative seeks out his help.” Netflix declined to share when Season 2 will begin production or when it will be released, but the new poster for the series, which can be found below, teases that it’s “coming soon.”
‘Splinter Cell: Deathwatch’ Creator Derek Kolstad Is an Action Savant
Splinter Cell: Deathwatch creator Derek Kolstad is best known for his work writing the first three John Wick movies starring Keanu Reeves. Although he didn’t write the script for John Wick: Chapter 4 or the Ana de Armas-led offshoot, Ballerina, he did earn a writing credit for his work creating the characters. He’s also famous for writing both of Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody movies, and he’s re-teaming with the Better Call Saul star for a new action movie, Normal, which is coming to theaters soon.
