Jake Johnson to Star in New Detective Drama From ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Creator!!

Jake Johnson will always be famous for his role as Nick Miller in New Girl, the hit sitcom that ran from 2011 to 2018. The show also stars Zooey Deschanel as Jess Day, Max Greenfield as Schmidt, Hannah Simone as Cece Parekh, and Lamorne Morris as Winston Bishop. New Girl made stars out of all of its main cast members, and almost 10 years after the show went off the air, all episodes are streaming on both Peacock and Hulu. More fans continue to discover New Girl and its beloved stars, which has led to the show being one of the most consistent sleeper hits on streaming. New Girl also crossed over with other famous network sitcoms, like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the hit cop comedy starring Andy Samberg and the late Andre Braugher.

It’s been something of a quiet few years for Jake Johnson since he retired from playing Nick Miller in New Girl, but now the star has officially found his next project. News broke this afternoon that Johnson will star in a new detective drama on NBC from Nick Goor, the creator of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Plot specifics about the series are being kept under wraps for now, as is its potential title, but it will follow a smart, cynical, and newly-heartbroken detective (Johnson) who has to pretend he’s okay while investigating cases in LA. He was once a distinguished LA cop before his life fell apart a few years ago. Additional casting details about the show are also being kept under wraps, as is a potential release date, but more information will almost certainly be made available in the coming months.

Jake Johnson Is Also a Major Marvel Hero

Johnson has also become famous for his role as Peter B. Parker in the animated Spider-Verse movies, first voicing the character in Into the Spider-Verse before reprising the role in Across the Spider-Verse. He’s confirmed to play the character once more, likely for the final time, in Beyond the Spider-Verse, which has now settled on June 20, 2027 for a release date. Johnson is also known for starring opposite Chris Pratt in the first Jurassic World movie, which grossed over $1 billion at the box office. He even teamed up with Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Andy Samberg for Self Reliance, a Hulu crime comedy that aired in 2023.
