‘Devil May Cry’ to End with Season 3!!

Dante’s journey through Netflix‘s Devil May Cry may have looked like a straightforward adaptation of Capcom‘s beloved action franchise, but the series has apparently been following a much larger plan from the very beginning. Following the recent release of Season 2, creator and showrunner Adi Shankar is pulling back the curtain on the structure that has been guiding the story all along.

Netflix Gives ‘Devil May Cry’ a Final Season, Completing The Trilogy

The story of Dante is officially heading into its final act, as Netflix has renewed Devil May Cry for a third season, which will also serve as the conclusion of the animated adaptation. Alongside the announcement, Shankar explained that the series has always been structured around Dante Alighieri‘s Divine Comedy.

“For those of you who have been paying attention to the episode names, I have been showing you the structure the entire time. This was always Dante’s Divine Comedy with guns and a red coat. Season 1 was Inferno. Season 2 was Purgatorio. Season 3 will be Paradiso.”

Shankar continued, “These three seasons make up ‘The Force Edge Saga.’ Since inception, ‘The Force Edge Saga’ was designed as a movie trilogy disguised as a television series.” The renewal comes after a strong performance for the series on Netflix. Across its first two seasons, Devil May Cry has appeared on the streamer’s Global Top 10 for four weeks. According to Netflix, Season 1 accumulated 21.7 million views in 2025, while Season 2 has already reached 6.4 million views in just two weeks.

Based on Capcom‘s hit video game franchise, Devil May Cry follows Dante, an orphaned demon hunter-for-hire caught in a conflict that threatens both the human and demon realms. While he spends much of the series battling supernatural threats, he remains unaware of just how important his role is in the fate of both worlds. The adaptation is produced by Shankar and animated by Studio Mir. The voice cast includes Johnny Yong Bosch as Dante, Robbie Daymond as Vergil, and Scout Taylor-Compton as Lady.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for the third and final season. In the meantime, the first two seasons of Devil May Cry are currently streaming on Netflix.
