Some people, true patriots, out there might say that South Park is the most patriotic television show of all time. It speaks to all of us as Americans, it teaches us the values and virtues of this great nation and it’s now that the show, after 29 long and happy American years, is officially going national.
After nearly 30 years, you might think there isn’t much left that South Park could do to surprise its audience. Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s animated comedy has spent almost three decades gleefully attacking politicians, celebrities, corporations, and its own parent company, but now the pair have decided that it’s not… American enough.
South Park is officially changing its name to South America, with Parker and Stone announcing the change ahead of the show’s Season 29 premiere on September 16. Parker and Stone’s statement reads in full:
“Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA. We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount – a Skydance Capitulation.”
Parker and Stone remain executive producers alongside Anne Garefino and Frank C. Agnone II. Eric Stough, Adrien Beard, Bruce Howell, and Vernon Chatman serve as producers, while Christopher Brion is Creative Director of South Park Digital Studios.
When Does ‘South Park’ Return?
Whatever audiences end up calling it, the series returns very soon. Season 29 will premiere Wednesday, September 16 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.
New episodes will subsequently air every other Wednesday, with installments scheduled for September 30, October 14, October 28, November 11, and November 25. Episodes will also be available internationally on Paramount+, with next-day streaming availability in the United States, Canada, and Australia.
The announcement arrives immediately after another major milestone for the series, which has won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program for the sixth time. The show has received more than 20 Emmy nominations over its run and was also selected for the 2026 Television Academy Honors, becoming the first animated production to receive that recognition.
South America Season 29 premieres September 16 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central, with episodes streaming on Paramount+.
