It’s a double dose of Ballerina bombast today as, following the reveal of the first poster, we’ve also been given a new look at Ana de Armas kicking some de Arm-ass in a brand-new image from next summer’s action blockbuster. The film will feature Keanu Reeves as John Wick, Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick returning from the main Wick films, alongside Anjelica Huston, Norman Reedus and Gabriel Byrne. The plot sees a young female assassin heading out for revenge against those who killed her family, and is set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4.
A few months back, Lionsgate unveiled the first trailer for Ballerina, giving us a glimpse of the spin-off’s commitment to the signature style we’ve come to love in the John Wick franchise. De Armas is set to deliver her own brand of gun-fu, enhanced by unique elements designed to make the action sequences truly memorable. The film will also reveal that this fighting style stems from a rigorous training regimen, where Eve learns to adapt, improvise, and even bend the rules to ensure her opponent ends up on the ground.
Chad Stahelski Oversaw Some ‘Ballerina’ Reshoots
In October, John Wick creator, guru and all round cool guy Chad Stahelski addressed speculation that he had been forced to step in to reshoot a large portion of the movie, but instead revealed that he and his writers and stunt team polished up the action scenes to cover for Wiseman, who was unwell at the time.
“We went back in with my writing team that had done John Wick: Chapter 4 , and my stunt team, and we just gave it a little shine together with Len and what he had already done. It wasn’t that much. Everybody’s like, ‘Ahh!’ No, we just went in for a couple of weeks. We changed some of the action sequences and made up for some time that Len just didn’t have. He didn’t have enough time to do some of the bigger shots that it deserved. There was a weather thing in Austria, and so we got to go back in for that. So it’s shaping up pretty nicely.”
Ballerina is set to release in theaters in June 2025. Check out the newest image above, and stay tuned to Collider for all the latest updates on the future of the ever-expanding John Wick franchise.
