‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’: New BTS Images Confirm Filming Has Wrapped!! Check It Out!!

The second big-screen adventure in James Gunn‘s new DC Comics cinematic universe has wrapped. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has flown off into the sunset, according to a new Instagram post by star David Krumholtz. The film is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.

Oppenheimer star Krumholtz, who plays Supergirl’s father Zor-El in the film, posted a pair of images of his chair with his name and character name on one side, and what may be the movie’s logo on the other. In the caption, he thanked the cast and crew, including Milly Alcock, who plays Supergirl; on-screen wife Emily Beecham, who plays Supergirl’s mother Alura; director Craig Gillespie; and Warner Bros. execs Gunn and Peter Safran, as well as all of the film’s London-based cast and crew. The film is set to get a preview of sorts with this summer’s new Superman film, in which Alcock will have a cameo role alongside her cousin Kal-El.

What Is ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ About?

The film is based on the 2021 comic book miniseries of the same name, by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. It sends Supergirl on a quest through space as she hunts for justice alongside alien girl Ruthye Marye Knoll, whose father was killed by the alien pirate Krem of the Yellow Hills. It’s unclear how much the film will adhere to the comics’ storyline; it will star Matthias Schoenaerts (The Old Guard) as Krem, and Eve Ridley (3 Body Problem) as Ruthye, and Superman’s dog Krypto, who starred in the comic and will be a key part of this summer’s Superman, will also turn up. It will also star Jason Momoa as the alien bounty hunter Lobo, who was not featured in the original comic. The film is directed by Gillespie (I, Tonya), from a script by Ana Nogueira, who is also slated to pen a Teen Titans film.

Created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino in 1959’s Action Comics #252, Kara Zor-El has made two previous trips to the big screen. Helen Slater portrayed the Maid of Steel in a spinoff of Christopher Reeve‘s Superman films in an eponymous 1984 movie: it was a critical and commercial disappointment. More recently, Sasha Calle played a multiversal incarnation of the character in 2023’s The Flash.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be released on June 26, 2026.
