Despite leaving the airways a few years back, there’s just no keeping Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan down — and why would you want to? After leading him to his demise in the largely panned sequel series, Dexter: New Blood, all bets are off with today’s arrival of the debut teaser for the upcoming series Dexter: Resurrection. Leaning heavily into the literal sense of the title, the project, which has also set its two-episode debut for July 11, will welcome Hall’s character back to the fold alongside a slew of other familiar faces from both New Blood and the eight-season-long flagship series, Dexter, that started it all.
Brief but intriguing, our first look at Hall physically back in the character’s shoes after all these years has the show’s playful theme song running in the background. Meanwhile, Dexter’s face is at first covered by a newspaper that’s headline reads “Dexter Morgan Is Dead.” Revealing a raised eyebrow and a smirk, Dexter lowers the newspaper and shows his face before the teaser cuts out, giving us no further explanation as to how the character has seemingly come back from the dead.
Although the debut teaser only gets us up-close-and-personal with Hall’s character, a fresh batch of images was dropped last week that showcase the other main players of Dexter: Resurrection. Showrunner Clyde Phillips is clearly bringing his A-game to the follow-up as he’s gathered quite the call sheet for the revamped project. Joining Hall from the award-winning show that started it all will be David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista and James Remar as Dexter’s father, Harry Morgan. From Dexter: New Blood, Jack Alcott is set to reprise his role as the vigilante killer’s son, Harrison Morgan. Meanwhile, favorites from across TV and film, like Peter Dinklage, Uma Thurman, Ntare Mwine, David Dastmalchian, and Kristen Ritter also join the fold.
The Nine Lives of ‘Dexter’
There was just something about a suave yet nerdy bloodsplatter analyst by day and vigilante serial killer by night that made audiences fall head over heels with Michael C. Hall’s take on the titular character in Dexter. And, after the grandiose mistakes made in Dexter: New Blood, it seems like the dreamy murderer might be back for good. To test out the water, the network launched the prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, likely in hopes of getting a better sense of where audiences were with another revival of the character. The project took off like wildfire and, with a second season on the way, all signs point to the Dexter universe being full steam ahead. That is, if Dexter: Resurrection can live up to the hype.
