‘Einstein’: First Image Previews Matthew Gray Gubler’s Highly-Anticipated Series!! Check It Out!!

Over a week ago, CBS made an interesting decision to push its upcoming show, Einstein, starring Criminal Minds alum Matthew Gray Gubler, to the 2025-26 season. While the decision worried some audiences looking for the series debut, it was made to give the series more time behind the scenes. The network has now released the first look of the fan-favorite actor to hype the show.

The image described in one word feels chaotic. A carefree Gubler is seen sitting on his living room sofa in his pajamas, surrounded by all the mess one can imagine – unopened envelopes, piles of papers on the table, a tipped-over lamp shade among other things (think: Sherlock in his room). The image instantly makes Gubler’s character, Lew Einstein, very relatable and intriguing.

What’s ‘Einstein’ About?

While not much is known about the series yet, per the log line, we follow a brilliant but directionless Lew Einstein, the great-grandson of Albert Einstein, who spends his days as a comfortably tenured professor. Things change when his bad boy antics land him in trouble with the law, and he is pressed into service helping a local police detective solve her most puzzling cases. “This show has a really high mix of comedy and procedure,” Amy Reisenbach, CBS’ Entertainment President, said of the upcoming series.

She further shed light on the decision to delay the series, adding, “At one point, Einstein was on the schedule,” she said. “But then it just occurred to us that we had an opportunity with this show. We’ve had such great results with longterm development.” She further cited the example of Sheriff Country, explaining, “[At last year’s upfront press event], we announced that we were picking up Sheriff Country to series [for 2025-26]. They start production next week, we have been promoting the show for months, we have 12 scripts banked, and we have a ton of efficiencies for production, scheduling, etc.”

We felt like Einstein could really benefit from this path, even if it means changing course. We are not afraid to do that when it means that we are setting the show up for its best chances of success.”

Rosa Salazar was set to play the show’s female lead; however, due to the delay, she has departed. The series will be directed by Monk’s Randy Zisk while Andy Breckman (A Good Cop) serves as the writer. The series is executive produced by Tariq Jalil, Rose Hughes, Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia, and Laura Beetz.

No further details are available at the moment.
