‘Assassin’s Creed’: Upcoming Netflix Series Finally Sets Showrunners, Writers and Producers!!

It has been 5 years since it was announced that a TV adaptation of the Ubisoft game Assassin’s Creed will be produced and released on Netflix. And while updates have been scarce, this latest one should excite fans as multiple TV veterans were hired to be part of the show’s writers’ room. Some of the names involved worked on massive projects, such as The Acolyte and Station Eleven, to name a few.

It was reported that Westworld‘s executive producer, Roberto Patino, will be co-showrunning the Netflix series along with Halo‘s David Wiener. Joining them are a team of experienced writers and producers, including Claire Kiechel (The Acolyte), Jaquén Castellanos (The Affair), Sanaz Toossi (A League of Their Own), Emily St John Mandel (Station Eleven), Sam Reynolds (The Walking Dead: World Beyond), Daniel Goldberg, and Tom Hemmings. It was reported that this Assassin’s Creed series will come out sometime between 2025 and 2026. However, due to how long it took to even form a writing team together, that release schedule would most likely be subject to change.

This isn’t the first time Assassin’s Creed has been adapted onto screen. In 2016, a science fiction feature of the same name, directed by Justin Kurzel, was released and starred Michael Fassbender. Unfortunately, this movie received poor reviews from fans and critics alike, generating a low 19% critics’ score and a 42% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the film earned more than its budget, generating over $240 million at the global box office.

What is ‘Assassin’s Creed’ About?

Assassin’s Creed is an open world historical adventure video game series by Ubisoft. In it, you play as assassins from different time periods. These assassins are the ancestors of the player character, and they’re reliving their memories thanks to the Animus, a miraculous device created by Abstergo Industries. The franchise currently has 14 main games, the most recent of which is Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which takes place in the Sengoku Period in Japan.

As of writing, the plot for the Netflix Assassin’s Creed series has yet to be revealed, and it’s unknown if it will feature any of the game’s characters or would come up with something original. In 2022, it was reported that Vikings: Valhalla creator Jeb Stuart would be the show’s showrunner, but left the project in 2023.

The 2016 Assassins Creed movie is available to stream on Max.
