‘The White Lotus’ Season 4 to Be Set in France!!

Vive la France! The White Lotus is returning to the continent for its upcoming fourth season. The hotly anticipated new season of Mike White‘s acclaimed HBO drama will head to France, as per reports. However, no casting announcements have yet been made. With each new season of The White Lotus, the announcement of the new exotic location to serve as the backdrop for bad behavior, betrayal, and bellicosity is almost as eagerly awaited as the series’ eclectic casting choices. While we’re still waiting on the roster of thespians who will drop into the latest incarnation of the fictitious White Lotus chain of luxury resorts, we do now know that the series will head to France for its fourth season. It’s a return to Europe after the series’ Sicily-set second season; the first season was set in Hawaiʻi, while the third took place in Thailand.

The series has traditionally used the real-life Four Seasons hotel chain as its locations, and there are a number of Four Seasons facilities in France: however, the series may shy away from its traditional beachside locales for its upcoming season. Following the show’s third-season finale, White said, “…I want to get a little bit out of the crashing waves of rocks vernacular but there’s always more room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.” That may mean a trip to the ski resorts of the Alps, or a more urban locale in Paris.

What Is ‘The White Lotus’ About?

An anthology series, each season of The White Lotus is set at a different luxury resort from the fictional chain of the same name. Each new season focuses on a new disparate group of vacationers and resort staff members, each with their own agendas. Despite the plush accommodations and the wellness and tranquility the resorts promote, the series typically features a mysterious death in the opening episode of each season; as the season unfolds, the identity of the dead person and how they met their fate is explored, as is the complex web of relationships between the guests and the staff. However, the seasons do exist in a shared continuity, and a handful of characters have appeared in multiple seasons. Jon Gries, as the sinister Greg Hunt (or “Gary”), is the only character to appear in all three seasons. Jennifer Coolidge appeared in the first and second seasons as the wealthy Tanya McQuoid before meeting a sticky end, and Natasha Rothwell appeared in both seasons one and three as spa manager Belinda Lindsey.

The White Lotus is one of HBO‘s most consistently acclaimed series; it currently holds a 90% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It has been nominated for 46 Primetime Emmy Awards, with its third season the most laureled yet, receiving 23 nominations. Coolidge and Murray Bartlett have taken home Emmys for their performance on the series.

The fourth season of The White Lotus is in development; no release date has yet been announced.
