Big-budget action shows have become a hot commodity on streaming in the last few years, and few are operating at the same level as Reacher, which can be found on Prime Video. Alan Ritchson has benefited from starring in all three seasons of Reacher, but he’s also given back to the show with his newfound notoriety — fans show up in droves to watch all his newest projects, and then they head back to Prime Video to see his crack skulls in the series inspired by Lee Child. Every streaming service is now on the lookout for its own version of Reacher, and while Netflix has tried out a few different projects, the one it’s settled on as its biggest rival is The Night Agent. The series stars Gabriel Basso, who also headlined one of the biggest Netflix movies of 2025, A House of Dynamite (featuring Rebecca Ferguson and Idris Elba).
The Night Agent has been one of the most popular shows on Netflix for years now, but viewership has been in decline since Season 1, with each new season decreasing in total minutes viewed. Despite this dip in viewership, Netflix renewed The Night Agent for Season 4 earlier this year, but the streamer also confirmed just yesterday that Season 4 will be the last season of the spy thriller series. One of the first names to join the cast of The Night Agent Season 4 was Titus Welliver, famed for his roles in Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, but now, news broke that The Night Agent Season 4 is further expanding its ensemble with Abigail Breslin, David Denman, and Annabeth Gish. Breslin and Gish are playing FBI agents, while Denman has been cast as a CIA agent.
Is ‘The Night Agent’ Like ‘Reacher’?
While The Night Agent and Reacher have different plots, there is enough overlap that fans of one show are all but guaranteed to enjoy the other. The Night Agent follows a low-level FBI agent named Peter Sutherland (played by Gabriel Basso) who finds himself launched into the middle of a global government conspiracy that goes all the way to the top. Reacher follows a more battle-hardened soldier (played by Alan Ritchson) who also lands in hot water due to a government conspiracy, but his time serving has left him more capable of handling himself.
