The Marvel Universe is vast, with a plethora of characters which can provide engaging storylines for fans of the franchise to enjoy. Post Avengers: Endgame, the franchise saw an increase in the number of characters it introduced. One of the additions in that time period was Oscar Isaac‘s Marc Spector and Steven Grant, characters who have dissociative identity disorder and a connection with an ancient Egyptian god, Khonshu. The characters arrived on Disney+ in the 2022 release of Moon Knight, which was well-received all round for its refreshing, unique tone. In the years that have followed, fans have sought for positive news regarding another season, but none has been forthcoming. A potential second season has received yet another update.
Moon Knight premiered on March 30, 2022, concluding on May 4, 2022, with composer Hesham Nazih, who recently worked on Eyes of Wakanda, taking part in the project. Despite the show’s relative success and largely positive reception from critics and audiences, it is yet to score a second season from Marvel Studios. Speaking with ScreenRant, Nazih offered some insight into the prospects of Moon Knight Season 2, and the prospects look as bleak as ever. The composer’s comments read:
“That’s the million-dollar question. No one knows. Not even Mohamed Diab. No one ever talked about this. No one knows. If you ask anyone, which I did, I only get, “No one knows.”
Marvel Still Wants to See the God of the Moon and Vengeance Return
It’s surprising that even the crew which worked on the series have been kept in the dark, suggesting that development has not kicked off in earnest. Interest in Moon Knight Season 2 is high and rightly so, with Isaac delivering a note-worthy performance as the complex lead with dissociative identity disorder (DID). Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige, has stated previously that there is “a future for that character” but nothing has materialized as yet. The show was created by Jeremy Slater, and during an appearance earlier in the year, the creator sought to keep hope going. “Talk to Kevin Feige, Talk to Oscar Isaac. I think the ball’s really in their court,” Slater said, adding, “It’s as much or as little Moon Knight as Oscar wants to do. Kevin’s the guy with the master plan, and I think when he comes up with a way to really incorporate Moon Knight into there … It’s my hope that we’re gonna see him again, but I’m as curious as the rest of you guys.”
Moon Knight is directed by Mohamed Diab and Synchronic duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. The series introduces Egyptian gods to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Isaac as the titular hero, Moon Knight/Khonshu. The also includes Ethan Hawke as the genocidal villain Arthur Harrow, and breakout Egyptian-Palestinian star May Calamawy, who plays an adventurous archeologist, Layla aka the Scarlet Scarab.
Moon Knight Season 2 is yet to materialize.
