‘Scream 8’: ‘Poker Face’ Showrunners Officially Set as Writers!!

Do you like scary movies? Of course you do, but to say the most recent chapter in the long-beloved Scream saga was divisive is the understatement of the year. Scream 7 was already off to a rough start with the highly controversial firing of Melissa Barrera and the later departure of co-star Jenna Ortega and director Christopher Landon. The end result from original franchise creator Kevin Williamson was heavily criticized by both fans and critics for prioritizing nostalgia over the scares, mystery, and satire that the series is so well-known for. Still, divisiveness aside, Scream 7 was a monumental success at the box office, and now, Scream 8 has taken its first official step forward as writers Lilla and Nora Zuckerman have been tapped by Spyglass to pen the next chapter, according to a new report.

If the Zuckerman Sisters sound familiar, that’s because they were responsible for helping bring the Rian Johnson-created Poker Face, one of the best murder mystery shows in recent memory, to life as both writers and showrunners. The 2-Season mystery series was highly acclaimed for its unique approach to the genre and Natasha Lyonne‘s gripping performance, but the show was still cancelled by Peacock, followed by the surprising plan to shop a new version of the series that swapped Natasha Lyonne with Peter Dinklage. in addition to Poker Face, the Zuckermans have also previously worked on other notable shows like Suits, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Fringe. The turbulent Scream saga first began with the original slasher in 1996, where young Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) successfully outwitted two ruthless serial killers. The story continued with the college-set Scream 2, the Hollywood satire Scream 3, and the fan-favorite Scream 4, all helmed by legendary horror director Wes Craven. Following Craven‘s passing, the franchise was successfully revived with 2022’s Scream “requel” before being brought to the Big Apple with Scream 6, the only film in the series not to feature Sidney due to a pay dispute with Neve Campbell.

Will Neve Campbell Return in ‘Scream 8’?

While Scream 7 made the controversial decision to scrap Melissa Barrera‘s character, it did manage to convince Neve Campbell to return to the series, as a new Ghostface killer upends Sidney Prescott’s peaceful suburban life. It’s still very early days for Scream 8, so it’s not currently clear if Campbell will be back for another round as Sidney. Other actors and characters who survived Ghostface’s latest killing spree include Courteney Cox as Sidney’s best frenemy Gale Weathers, Isabel May as Sidney’s teenage daughter Tatum Evans, Joel McHale as Sidney’s husband Mark Evans, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown as the Meeks-Martin twins, and, of course, Roger Jackson as the iconic voice of Ghostface.

Scream 8 is in development now.
