‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ Sequel Officially Confirms The Shredder as the Villain!!

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are headed back to the big screen. A sequel to the Turtles’ last animated adventure, Mutant Mayhem, is making its way to theaters next year, and we finally have some details about the film. Attendees at CinemaCon in Las Vegas were treated to a sneak peek during Paramount’s presentation.

Producers Seth Rogen, James Weaver, and Evan Goldberg sent a video message to CinemaCon attendees today, revealing that two classic villains will menace the Ninja Turtles in the sequel. The Shredder, AKA Oroku Saki, the metal-masked samurai who leads the sinister Foot Clan of ninjas, will be featured in the film. His arrival was previously teased at the end of the previous film. Joining him is his partner in crime, the brain-like Utrom alien, Krang; while a character in the previous film was named “Cynthia Utrom,” it’s not clear if she is Krang in disguise or simply another member of his species.

What Happened in ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’?

The 2023 film detailed the origin of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as mutagenic ooze transformed four pet turtles into the humanoid Donatello, Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael (played by actual teenagers Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon). Trained to be ninja teens by the mutant rat Splinter (Jackie Chan), the four befriend aspiring journalist April O’Neil (Ayo Edebiri), who’s investigating strange doings at tech corporation TCRI. It turns out to be the work of Superfly (Ice Cube), a mutant insect who’s planning to instigate mass mutant mayhem. That means unleashing a bevy of mutants, including Mondo Gecko (Paul Rudd), Scumbug (Alex Hirsch), Bebop (Rogen), Rocksteady (John Cena), Leatherhead (Rose Byrne), Wingnut (Natasia Demetriou), Ray Fillet (Post Malone), and Genghis Frog (Hannibal Buress). The Turtles stemmed the mutant tide, but lurking in the shadows is Cynthia Utrom (Maya Rudolph), a TCRI executive who answers to the mysterious Shredder.

The world of the Ninja Turtles is in flux at the moment, thanks to the merger mayhem that is reshaping parent company Paramount. Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a Paramount+ spin-off of the film, was cancelled after two seasons, and a planned live-action adaptation of the dystopian The Last Ronin comics won’t be going forward. Instead, a new live-action film is in development.

The sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem will be released on August 13, 2027.
